A two-piece band from London, comprised of Haynes – described as ‘one of the UK’s best blues vocalists’ by bandsoup.com – on vocals, guitar and percussion and Richard Coulson on drums and piano.
Initially, any vocal comparisons to Caleb Followill on the first couple of Kings of Leon albums are not completely out of line, although the sound is somewhat more in the spirit of Seasick Steve or early Black Keys. However, Alex cites other influences – including the downhome blues of artists like John Lee Hooker and R.L. Burnside and the tougher R&B and rock’n'roll sound of artists such as The Stones and Captain Beefheart.
As an act, they draw influence from the Sun/Chess-style R&B, a healthy dose of rock’n’roll and the heavy blues influence on Haynes’ song-writing. The result, whilst having an elemental simplicity inherent in the acts’ stripped back line-up, remains a rich brew.
On the first and third Monday of each month Alex plays a solo residency at The Blues Kitchen – Shoreditch
Currently in the pipeline is the debut album release, with an expected release in Spring ’15.
Last Summer, Alex was a featured artist on Resonance FM’s alternative blues show ‘House Rent Boogie’, listen here:
